this is so beautiful henry. i too got into fights when i was a kid haha (probably why i do martial arts now), and writing has been a wonderful catharsis for me, too. maybe because both getting angry and writing require you to be very present.
Thanks for this story! It’s amazing how much many of the coaslines of the world, but especially in southeast and east Asia have changed in just the last quarter century. And on top of that, glacial coasts in the Arctic have altered, and in the other direction rebound from continental glaciers mean ongoing rebound in Iceland and the Gulf of Bothnia among other places. We think of some aspects of the world as fixed, but then we get down to business and it’s busy changing, constantly, and not just because of human action… though we have accelerated certain kinds of changes for sure. And our childeren and grandchildren will see even more dramatic coastal changes in decades to come…
Good luck with everything you’re working on. Sometimes the greatest inspirations come from the hardest moments. My own path as a writer began with a “You’ll never become an author” from a teacher. Honestly, if it weren’t for those words, I probably wouldn’t have pushed myself the way I did. But I also had people who believed in me - my grandparents - and I’ll be grateful to them for the rest of my life.

Ha maybe so! Though at least with writing there is much more self control (thankfully otherwise who knows what would come out)
I loved this. Thank you for sharing it. The circles from youth to middle age are real.
Thanks! It’s fun to be able to identify specific moments and realize how impactful they may have been on who you are now
This is good. Thanks for finding me so I could stumble over here. I’m looking forward to more :)
